Tosun is happy now, but our doors are always open to him: Besiktas' vice-president Cebi

Bengaluru, February 20: New Everton signing Cenk Tosun has been offered a lifeline by former club Besiktas's vice-president Ahmet Nur Cebi as he suggested that the player is very much welcome back at the former side at any time after rumours surfaced that the striker has failed to settle on Merseyside.

The 26-year-old Turkish star joined the Premier League side just two months ago for a whopping £27m with a big reputation of scoring goals. However, he has only managed 142 minutes of football for his new side, starting only twice.

He was demoted to the bench for team-mate Niasse in the recent games and has been an unused substitute in two of the club's last three matches. Also manager Allardyce openly implied that he does not expect the player to properly adapt to English football until next season.

Seeing all this, his former side's Vice President has now come out to support the player and has claimed that should the player want to return to his old place he is very much welcomed. Though, he insisted that the player is, for now, happy in the Premier League.

"I think he's happy now, but at Besiktas our doors are always open to him," Nur Cebi told HaberTurk.

"I would love him to come back in the future. And I think at one stage of his career, he will want a return to Besiktas because we have a brilliant atmosphere here, and players want to play for this shirt again."

But Tosun in an interview last month has rejected all the possibility of his return to Turkey and firmly stated that he is ready to fight for his place in the team and his intentions are to stay put at Goodison Park and adapt himself as the first-choice striker in the side.

He said: "I've zero interest in going back to Turkey at this point. Yes I'm a Besiktas fan, but I'll never return to them without fighting and achieving things in Everton. That's not me. I'll show everyone in England who is Cenk Tosun."

Everton will next face Watford on Saturday (February 24) in away trip and the Turkish international will surely be hoping to fight his way back into the starting eleven in the game.
