Tottenham Agree £100M Deal For Newcastle Midfielder Sandro Tonali: REPORT
Tottenham Hotspur is exploring an ambitious move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to a report by David Ornstein of The Athletic, but any deal would be extremely difficult given Newcastle’s valuation and the player’s importance to Eddie Howe’s side.
Tonali has become one of Newcastle’s key midfield figures since joining from AC Milan in 2023. Spurs’ interest underlines their desire to strengthen the centre of the pitch, but Newcastle are not expected to make negotiations easy unless a major offer arrives.

According to a report by David Ornstein in The Athletic, Tottenham admire Tonali and are assessing whether a summer deal can be done. The Italy international would represent a statement signing for Spurs, who are looking to add quality, control and athleticism in midfield.
However, there is no indication that a transfer is close at this stage. Reports suggesting personal terms have already been agreed or that a medical is imminent should be treated with caution unless confirmed by reliable sources or the clubs involved.
Tonali’s profile is clear. He can operate as a deep midfielder, progress the ball, press aggressively and add defensive cover. Those qualities make him attractive to Premier League clubs, especially sides looking to build a more balanced midfield unit.
Newcastle stance remains key
Newcastle paid a significant fee to sign Tonali from AC Milan and still view him as an important part of their long-term project. Selling him would only make sense if the financial package was too strong to ignore, particularly with Profitability and Sustainability Rules remaining a factor for Premier League clubs.
For Tottenham, the biggest challenge would be the scale of the fee. Any move for Tonali would likely require a club-record level investment, plus a major wage package. That makes the transfer complicated even before Newcastle’s sporting concerns are considered.
Spurs have been linked with several midfield options as they plan for the summer window. Tonali would be among the most high-profile names on that list, but interest alone does not guarantee progress in a market where elite midfielders are difficult to prize away.
For now, Tottenham’s pursuit appears to be at the exploratory stage. Newcastle’s position, Tonali’s own preference, and the final financial structure would all need to align before one of the summer’s biggest Premier League transfers could become realistic.
