Thomas Frank expressed his belief that Tottenham performed admirably against Paris Saint-Germain, a team he considers among the world's best, during the UEFA Super Cup. Despite leading by two goals, Spurs ended up drawing 2-2 in regular time and losing 4-3 in a penalty shootout at Bluenergy Stadium on Wednesday.
Frank's debut competitive match as Spurs' manager saw Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero scoring on either side of halftime. However, PSG substitutes Lee Kang-In and Goncalo Ramos turned the game around late on, although Vitinha missed PSG's first penalty. Rodrigo Bentancur had given Spurs a two-goal lead before Van de Ven's penalty was saved by Lucas Chevalier, and Mathys Tel missed his shot.

Nuno Mendes then scored the decisive penalty for PSG, securing their first Super Cup win under Luis Enrique. Despite the loss, Tottenham contributed significantly to the match. They recorded an expected goals (xG) total of 1.4 from 13 shots compared to PSG's 1.2 from 12 attempts at Guglielmo Vicario’s goal.
Although disappointed with the outcome, Frank found positives in Spurs' performance as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Burnley on Saturday. "I think we played a very good game against one of the best teams in the world, maybe the best at this moment in time," Frank told TNT Sports.
"We had them exactly where we wanted them for 80-something minutes until the 2-1 goal, then, of course, the momentum shifted a little bit," Frank continued. He praised his team's adaptability and pragmatism against PSG's high-caliber squad and highlighted their effective defensive strategies and set pieces.
Frank also hinted at potential new signings before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. Tottenham have already added six players to their roster this summer, including Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha who started against PSG. Kevin Danso also played after making his loan move permanent.
The club has been linked with Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze recently. While content with his current squad, Frank is eager to bolster it further. "We'd like to strengthen the squad. No doubt about that," Frank added. "We do work very hard to see if we can do that."
He emphasised his satisfaction with the existing team but acknowledged that every transfer window presents opportunities to enhance squad strength before it closes.
