New Delhi, Aug 13: Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper and Captain Hugo Lloris has said keeping the club's best players is more vital than signing new names, in a recent interview while talking about his Clubs lack of signing.

Last season's Premier League runners up are presently the only side without signing a single player this window in spite of selling players like Kyle Walker, Nabil Bentaleb, Clinton N'Jie and Federico Fazio for a total amount of near about £72million.

Tottenham's hesitance to spend while their title rivals putting money intensely in signing new players has provoked concerns among the fans that this season they will not be able to perform like last season with such a thin squad.

However, manager Pochettino has now assured the fans that they should show faith in the club and there will be fresh signings before the window closes on August 31.

Lloris's teammate Danny Rose recently criticised his board's inability to land players and slammed his clubs low spending and low wage policy in a recent interview.

The Tottenham left-back who is recently linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea also added that his team need to sign stars and not unknown promising players.

However, Lloris now suggested he also defends his board and claimed keeping the best players at the club is like a good signing.

"The most important thing is to make sure we keep basically the same group of players," the France international goalkeeper said.

"There is a real project happening and the board showed that last season by re-signing all of the most important players in the squad."

Spurs will begin their premier League campaign today against Newcastle United and last time they faced each other, the London club encountered a humiliating 5-1 defeat. But Lloris now claimed they have come too far from that embarrassment and this time they will be eager to turn the things up.

"It is one of my worst moments as a Tottenham player. It was terrible, really terrible, and I still cannot explain why it happened," he says. "But we will be working hard to make sure it doesn't happen again."

"You learn from great performances, but you learn a lot more from games like that," he claims.

"I think that has been the case with us because we went on to have a good season and I hope we are going to step up again this time.

"We have the potential to challenge and compete with the best teams, and we need to show it again."
