Tottenham could lose forward Heung-Min Son for two years

London, March 15: Tottenham Hotspur star attacker Heung-min Son could miss football up to two years as well can be unavailable at the start of the next season due to international commitments.

As per South Korean law, every man must do 21 months of National Service before they turn 28. Son who turns the same in July 2019 also has to serve the same and if he does that we will miss the football of 2019-20 and 2020-21, two consecutive seasons.

However, there are still exceptions regarding sports personnel in this rule. If any player does exceptionally well in their respective field then the National service reduces to just four weeks.

The 25-year-old has not done anything substantial early in his career for he is yet to bring any laurels for his country with an exemplary work in the game.

But should he reach the semi-final in Russia of World Cup or earns a gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games or the 2019 Asian Cup, it will exempt him from joining the camp for a long time.

Son could also miss the start of next season because South Korea is due to participate in Asian Games next season.

Four years back, when Son was in Leverkusen and the player was not allowed to leave his side for his national side as the tournament is not a part of FIFA’s official calendar, clubs are not obliged to release players for it.

However, now we have to see how Tottenham manage to convince the player and South Korean sports chiefs about the prospect of Heung-min Son missing games.

South Korea U23 coach, however, wants Son, their best player, to be one of their three over-age players in the Asian Games, which will be held in Indonesia between August 18 and September 2.

They won it in 2014 without Son and now should he join the side he could miss Tottenham’s first four games of next season.

Son has established himself as one of the best Asian players of all time in the Premier league after Park Ji Sung. The player has been a consistent goal scorer for the London based side for the last two seasons and has already managed 18 goals and 9 assists this term.
