Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea : Three areas Graham Potter need to work on ahead of the London Derby

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea could be a morale booster game for the Blues who have an impressive recent record against their London rival. Check out where the Blues need to improve ahead of the crucial clash.

Chelsea

Chelsea have won one of their last 10 matches in all competitions and time seems to be running out for manager Graham Potter to salvage something from their season.

The Blues are in 10th place in the Premier League table and the last weekend was in another rock-bottom situation following their 1-0 defeat against relegation-threatened Southampton. The Blues met with a chorus of boos last weekend while leaving Stamford Bridge with head coach Graham Potter's stock at the club seemingly now at an all-time low.

But as per the rumours, Potter still has the support of owners Todd Boehly and his job role is under no immediate threat. Although there is no doubt the English coach will be under immense pressure at the weekend when they visit London rival Tottenham Hotspur.

But a visit to Tottenham could be just what can revise their form. Spurs have lost all three of their home league games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Chelsea by an aggregate score of 6-0. The Blues are also unbeaten in eight Premier League meetings with Spurs, hence fans can be hopeful of a positive outcome considering the recent history.

However, there are plenty of work left to be done by the English manager ahead of the tie and these are three areas Chelsea need to get better at to earn a result-

Improve Chelsea's scoring chances

Despite adding the likes of Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, and David Datro Fofana tothe current forward line in January they have only managed to score four goals in 10 games in all competitions. Potter's offensive third has been pretty fluid in the last few games however the team needs to start putting away chances. The likes of Fofana or Havertz need to be more clinical in front of the goal and the gameplay needs to be quicker, slicker, and more direct.

Chelsea

The Midfield battle

Tottenham will be without two first-team key players in the game with Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur both currently sidelined. The Blues should look to take advantage of the absentees. Antonio Conte's team usually carries the ball heavily through the middle and then bypasses it to the wide area. If Chelsea can win the battle in the middle of the pitch with the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Ngolo Kante forming a double pivot, their job could well be in an advanced stage.

Decimating Spurs' Counterattack

With two fast wing-backs and pacey wingers like Heung Min-son and Dejan Kulusevski, Tottenham are a well-oiled machine in a counter-attacking system. Most of Tottenham's gameplay depends upon retribution after winning the ball back. Chelsea need to take care of this game plan and should avoid losing easy balls while on the attacking run.
