Bengaluru, March 6: North London club Tottenham Hotspur are putting together a contingency plan as talks of Toby Alderweireld's exit from the club gains momentum.
Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly set his sights on Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as the replacement for their star Belgian.
Scouts from Spurs have been present at several of the £35million-rated defender's games since problems first surfaced with Alderweireld, according to Mirror.
The Belgian is out of contract at White Hart Lane in the summer of 2019 and is stalling on signing fresh terms.
With Alderweireld demanding a pay increase to £150,000 a week but Spurs are unwilling to make a change to their notorious wage structure which means that the Belgian could be allowed to leave lon the cheap.
Mauricio Pochettino is looking to use the proceeds from selling the 29-year-old to strengthen other areas and could bring in the 22-year-old Germany international as Alderweireld's replacement.
If Spurs chairman Daniel Levy hopes to get the defender on the cheap, he will have to think twice.
Leverkusen have just spent £18million on 19-year-old Greek youngster Panagiotis Retsos and will be looking to replenish their accounts.
Tah is an exciting prospect having already earned three senior caps for Germany and developed extremely well during his time with the Bundesliga side.
If Tah were to join the Spurs he surely wouldn't be content with being a back up option as he is being monitored by the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool as well.
The German made his debut in the German top-tier aged 17 for Hamburg and has since broken into Leverkusen's first team.
He would likely compete with Davinson Sanchez at White Hart Lane who has found himself first choice after being brought in initially to provide competition for Alderweireld.
