Tottenham Hotspur's Ange Postecoglou Calls For January Reinforcements Due To Injury Struggles

Ange Postecoglou emphasises the necessity for Tottenham to acquire new players in the January transfer window due to significant injury challenges. The club is actively seeking reinforcements as they navigate a tough season.

Ange Postecoglou acknowledged that Tottenham Hotspur are actively seeking new players during the January transfer window. However, he admitted that acquiring talent mid-season presents significant challenges. Spurs have been grappling with injuries, which has impacted their performance. They currently find themselves in 14th place in the Premier League after losing to Arsenal on Wednesday, marking their 11th defeat of the season.

Spurs recently bolstered their squad by signing goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague. This move was necessary after Guglielmo Vicario suffered a broken ankle, leaving a gap in their goalkeeping options. The team is also missing key defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, along with winger Wilson Odobert, due to long-term injuries. These absences have prompted Postecoglou to emphasize the need for reinforcements.

Postecoglou Urges Spurs to Secure January Signings

Postecoglou explained that securing players in January is complicated because clubs are often reluctant to let go of players without having replacements lined up. "The club is working as hard as it can and that's all you can ask for," he stated. "I do know a lot of work is being done behind the scenes." He stressed the importance of bringing in new players this week if possible.

There were rumours linking Spurs with Paris Saint-Germain's Randal Kolo Muani for a loan deal this window. However, reports now suggest he is nearing an agreement with Juventus. When questioned about interest in the French international, Postecoglou clarified: "It depends what you mean. We've been interested in and were looking at a number of players, but did we get to the point we thought he was coming to us? No."

The injury list at Spurs has grown longer with recent additions like Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson, and Yves Bissouma. Werner faces time off due to a hamstring injury, while Johnson and Bissouma picked up knocks against Arsenal. Despite these setbacks, there is some positive news as Ben Davies is expected to return against Everton on Sunday after recovering from his own hamstring issue.

"There's a couple still sore from midweek," Postecoglou mentioned regarding player fitness updates. "Just waiting to see how Brennan Johnson is; he has a bit of a calf complaint," he added. "Biss is a bit sore. Ben Davies should be involved. Timo has got a hamstring tweak, probably three to four weeks."

The club remains committed to strengthening its squad amid these challenges and hopes for better results moving forward.
