Kolkata, March 18: North London club Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to open talks with in-form Heung-Min Son over a new contract.

The South Korean is likely to take his total to over 20 goals for the second season in a row having scored 18 in 43 appearances and reports in England claim that the 25-year-old will hold talks with Spurs chiefs in the coming weeks to improve his deal.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man moved to White Hart Lane in 2015 and his current deal expires in 2020.

The South Korean international has scored 47 goals since joining and has netted seven in his last four games.

And Spurs will need him to keep on firing them in with star striker Harry Kane out with an ankle injury.

The England striker is set to miss at least a month of action after colliding with Bournemouth keeper Asmir Begovic at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Spurs could be without Son for up to two years if he has to complete his military service which is mandatory in his country.

Under Korean law, all men must do 21 months of National Service before they turn 28.

Son reaches that milestone in July 2019 and any military call-up would rule him out of the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

That will be a huge worry for the player and the club but Spurs are hopeful that they can convince the Korean government to make an exception to the law considering Son is a footballer of the highest level.

He is an icon in his country and throughout the whole of Asia and Spurs are looking to ensure that his future belongs at the north London.

With their Champions League exit, Spurs will be focused to finish the season inside top four and for that, they need Son to keep on impressing.
