Thomas Frank is optimistic about Tottenham's readiness to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. Spurs, making their debut in this competition, recently ended a 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League in May. Despite losing manager Ange Postecoglou after a disappointing Premier League finish and key players like Son Heung-min, Frank believes they can still challenge PSG.
PSG, under Luis Enrique's guidance, are aiming for more silverware despite limited pre-season preparation due to their Club World Cup participation. They lost 3-0 to Chelsea in the final on July 13. Last season, PSG secured a treble, clinching Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and their first Champions League title with a record-breaking win over Inter.

Ousmane Dembele has been instrumental for PSG, contributing to 36 goals across competitions in 2025. His performance against English teams has been notable, with six goal involvements in eight matches. For Tottenham, Dominic Solanke was pivotal in their Europa League success last season, scoring five crucial goals.
The upcoming match marks the first encounter between PSG and Tottenham. In 2025, PSG won five out of eight games against English clubs but recently lost to Chelsea. Spurs have fared well against French teams lately, defeating Marseille twice in the 2022-23 Champions League group stage.
Tottenham are the eighth English team to compete in the UEFA Super Cup. Historically, six of the previous seven English teams won their debut final appearance. Arsenal was the exception, losing to AC Milan in 1995. However, Spurs have struggled domestically this year with 16 losses but have excelled in European competitions.
Despite Gianluigi Donnarumma's exclusion from PSG's lineup being a talking point, Luis Enrique remains focused on winning more trophies. "We have the opportunity to make history in Paris and win trophies," he stated. The lack of pre-season might be challenging but motivates them to improve further.
Frank is confident about Spurs' chances against PSG despite missing James Maddison and Yves Bissouma due to disciplinary issues. "These players want more victories," he said before his first competitive game as manager. He believes it's an opportune moment for Spurs to face PSG.
The probability of a PSG victory stands at 62.4%, while a draw is at 19.3%, leaving Tottenham with an 18.3% chance of winning according to Opta statistics.
The UEFA Super Cup has predominantly been won by Champions League victors over the past decade except for Atletico Madrid's triumph over Real Madrid in 2018. This trend adds pressure on Tottenham as they aim for success against seasoned winners like PSG.
