Kirsty Hanson Signs For Tottenham Hotspur Women After Standout 2025-26 WSL Campaign

Tottenham have completed the signing of Scotland forward Kirsty Hanson after a standout 2025-26 Women’s Super League season with Aston Villa. Hanson joins Spurs on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee, strengthening a squad that is targeting Champions League qualification in the 2026-27 campaign.

The 28-year-old arrives after scoring 12 goals in 22 league appearances for Aston Villa last season. That return placed Hanson third in the WSL scoring charts behind Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw, who hit 21 goals, and Arsenal forward Alessia Russo, who finished with 13 league strikes.

Hanson exceeded ten league goals in a single WSL campaign for the first time in 2025-26, underlining her progress at this stage of a career built across several English clubs. Villa ended the season in ninth place, finishing 11 points above bottom side Leicester City in the final standings.

Tottenham are looking to build on a positive first season under head coach Martin Ho, who previously worked as an assistant at Manchester United. Spurs finished fifth in the 2025-26 Women’s Super League and are aiming to move into Champions League places in 2026-27.

The North London club have been active in the transfer market around Hanson’s arrival. Spurs have already brought in Shekiera Martinez and Caitlin Dijkstra, adding further depth to a squad that is being reshaped to compete with the established WSL contenders over a long campaign.

Hanson first joined Aston Villa on loan in 2022, before making the move permanent after impressing there. Before that, Hanson contributed to Manchester United’s growth in the women’s game, helping the club settle in the top division following promotion to the WSL in 2019.

Speaking after sealing the move to Tottenham, Hanson outlined personal goals and enthusiasm for the project. Hanson said: "I'm absolutely delighted, it's an exciting time to be a part of this club. I'm ready for a new challenge, and I'm always wanting to be better every single day. [Head coach] Martin [Ho], the club, the staff, the players are at such an exciting pointand I want to be a part of that."

Hanson’s signing gives Tottenham another proven WSL scorer as the club chase higher league finishes and European qualification. With further additions including Martinez and Dijkstra, Spurs enter the 2026-27 season with strengthened depth and clear intent to progress from last season’s fifth place.
