Tottenham Stay Up As Kane Congratulates Club And De Zerbi Vows To Build A Top Team
Tottenham secured Premier League survival with a tense 1-0 home win over Everton on the final day, a result that kept the club above the drop despite West Ham beating Leeds United 3-0 and prompted celebrations from former striker and current England captain Harry Kane.
Kane, who left a major gap in Tottenham’s attack when departing, expressed delight that the club stayed up. Posting on social media, Kane wrote: "Congratulations to everyone at the club especially the fans - massive fight and result on the final day!"

The final standings meant Tottenham survived while West Ham went down, despite that convincing victory over Leeds United. Everton pushed De Zerbi’s side until the closing stages, yet David Moyes could not deliver the result his former club West Ham needed to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Match outcomes on the final day highlighted how narrow the margins were around the relegation places, with Tottenham’s single-goal win decisive against the backdrop of West Ham’s big result over Leeds United at London Stadium.
{TABLE_1}Everton manager David Moyes reflected on the intensity of the contest and the home crowd’s influence. "[Tottenham] were very powerful in the opening part of the game," Moyes said. "With the crowd, the players were really pumped up. We know about that at Everton, because we've been through it. We were resilient enough to stop them from getting too far ahead, and we were probably the better team in the final 20 minutes, but that's all."
Roberto De Zerbi, formerly in charge at Marseille, admitted to Sky Sports that "this was maybe the best performance in my time here" and immediately looked ahead, stating: "Next season we have to build a top, top, top team." Recruitment already sat high on De Zerbi’s agenda.
De Zerbi expanded on those plans in the post-match news conference, underlining the need for targeted signings after a campaign without a forward of Kane’s quality. "From tonight, we need to build the new team. We don't need to change too many players. We have 10, 11, 12 players who are good enough to stay as players and as people. Now we need to complete the squad with the first level of players."
The Italian coach described the strain felt during the relegation battle and stressed that such tension must not repeat. "I suffered too much, but so did the players, the board and the fans, and we can't suffer like this as Tottenham Hotspur." That message framed Tottenham’s survival as a warning as well as a relief.
The season therefore ended with Tottenham safe, West Ham relegated and Everton frustrated after failing to take advantage late on, while De Zerbi, the Tottenham board and Kane all pointed in different ways toward the same theme: survival achieved, but major improvement required before the next campaign.
