Trent Alexander-Arnold Misses Liverpool's EFL Cup Final Against Newcastle Due To Injury

Trent Alexander-Arnold will not play in Liverpool's EFL Cup final against Newcastle due to an ankle injury. He is expected to return before the season concludes.

Liverpool will face Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final without Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is sidelined due to an ankle injury. He sustained this injury during Liverpool's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, which ended in a penalty shootout loss for the Reds. Despite his absence, there is hope he might return before the season concludes.

Alexander-Arnold's injury adds to Liverpool's defensive woes, as Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez are also recovering from injuries. Jarell Quansah, recently called up to Thomas Tuchel's England squad, replaced Alexander-Arnold in the PSG match and may start at Wembley. Head coach Arne Slot confirmed Alexander-Arnold's unavailability for the final.

Alexander-Arnold Out of EFL Cup Final

Alexander-Arnold is not the only Liverpool player with an uncertain future. Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are also out of contract at the end of this season. Salah has been exceptional this season, contributing 27 goals and 17 assists in the Premier League. Van Dijk has played every minute of Liverpool's league campaign.

Van Dijk expressed uncertainty about his future at Liverpool following their defeat to PSG. However, Slot remains focused on planning with Van Dijk in mind for next season. "The only thing I know is that I want Virgil to be here next season," Slot stated, emphasizing that contract talks do not influence his planning.

Liverpool are set to compete in their 15th EFL Cup final, more than any other team. They have claimed victory in this competition 10 times, surpassing all other clubs. A win against Newcastle would bring their total domestic cup wins to 19, equalling Manchester United's record.

This upcoming final marks Arne Slot's first with Liverpool as head coach. He anticipates a challenging encounter against Newcastle United on Sunday. "We're really looking forward to playing in a final again," Slot remarked, acknowledging the competitive nature of English cup competitions.

Slot emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities in finals given the strong competition present in England. "If you are part of it, of course, you want to try to win it," he said, noting that Newcastle will share that ambition.
