Trent Alexander-Arnold's decision to leave Liverpool has sparked discussion, with Harry Kewell supporting his choice. Alexander-Arnold, whose contract ends in June, announced his departure on Monday. Having joined Liverpool's academy in 2004, he progressed to the first team under Jurgen Klopp in 2016. Over nine years, he made 352 appearances, scored 23 goals, and provided 92 assists.
Alexander-Arnold played a crucial role in Liverpool's success, helping them secure two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy. Kewell, who was part of Liverpool's 2005 Champions League-winning squad, believes Alexander-Arnold deserves no criticism for leaving. "I'm probably not going to win a lot of fans over for this, but I think Trent has done amazing things at Liverpool," Kewell told Stats Perform.

Kewell further stated that Alexander-Arnold has achieved everything possible with Liverpool and should be allowed to seek new challenges. "If he now wants a new challenge, if that's the path he chooses, then fair play to him," Kewell added. He acknowledged fans' frustration but emphasized that Alexander-Arnold has earned the right to consider his future.
Speculation surrounds Alexander-Arnold's potential move to Real Madrid. Kewell noted the significance of such a transfer: "Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world, but he's not going to a smaller club—he's going to Real Madrid." The pressure at Real Madrid will be immense, yet Alexander-Arnold is accustomed to high expectations from his time at Anfield.
Kewell recalled how opponents dreaded playing at Anfield due to its intense atmosphere. He praised Alexander-Arnold's ability to handle pressure and highlighted his exceptional passing skills: "His passing range is phenomenal. I've said it before: he's probably one of the best crossers we've ever seen in the Premier League."
Despite questions about his defensive skills, Alexander-Arnold's attacking contributions are undeniable. He leaves Anfield with more assists (64) than any other defender in Premier League history. Only Leighton Baines (85) surpasses him in goal contributions among defenders in England's top flight.
Kewell acknowledged the trade-off between Alexander-Arnold's defensive and attacking abilities: "Yes, there's a trade-off. Defensively, he's not a natural defender, but what he gives you in attack is outstanding." He credited Virgil van Dijk for providing defensive support that allowed Alexander-Arnold to excel offensively.
Alexander-Arnold expressed mixed emotions about leaving Liverpool after two decades: "I want to say it's not an easy decision and there's a lot of thought and feeling that has gone into it." He cherished every moment at the club and fulfilled all his aspirations there.
