Reece James shared that Donald Trump, the President of the United States, expressed a desire to remain during Chelsea's Club World Cup trophy celebrations. The Blues secured a 3-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium, with Cole Palmer scoring twice and Joao Pedro adding another before half-time.
Trump played a role in distributing individual awards and medals prior to the trophy presentation. Instead of stepping aside with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, he chose to stay beside James for the trophy lift. James confirmed Trump's intention to stay and congratulated the team on their achievement.

This triumph marked Chelsea's fourth final victory by a three-goal margin. Previous wins include the 1955 Community Shield (3-0 vs Newcastle), 2019 UEFA Europa League (4-1 vs Arsenal), and 2025 UEFA Conference League (4-1 vs Real Betis). Chelsea also became the first English club to win multiple Club World Cup titles, including under its previous format.
The London club has maintained an unbeaten record in international finals since 2013, excluding super cups. This victory further solidified their status as a dominant force in international football competitions.
James recounted his surprise at Trump's decision to remain on stage. "They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage. I thought that he was going to exit the stage but he wanted to stay," said James. Despite the noise, Trump congratulated him and the team for their success.
Cole Palmer, who earned Player of the Tournament honours, was also taken aback by Trump's presence during the ceremony. Palmer remarked, "I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yes."
The unexpected involvement of Trump added an unusual twist to Chelsea's celebratory moments. Despite this surprise, both players and fans relished their team's remarkable achievement on such a significant stage.
