Thomas Tuchel is confident that England possesses the talent to excel in the 2026 World Cup. The German coach will officially lead the Three Lions starting January 1. He was present at the qualifying draw held at UEFA headquarters in Zurich. Tuchel's goal is to guide England to their eighth consecutive World Cup appearance, following semi-final and quarter-final finishes under Gareth Southgate.
Tuchel expressed his belief in England's potential, stating, "I knew this before and watching the matches, we have the players, the talent and the characteristics to go far. But now, first of all, we have to prove it in the qualifiers." He emphasised that as tournaments progress, the competition becomes tougher due to narrowing gaps between teams.

England's journey begins with Group K opponents Serbia, Albania, Latvia, and Andorra. Tuchel acknowledged the challenges ahead: "I have huge respect for Serbia and Albania. They can always surprise." He highlighted their strong football history and emotional playing style. England has never faced Latvia before, making it a new challenge.
Harry Kane remains a key player for Tuchel after joining Bayern Munich last August. Despite criticism during Euro 2024 for scoring only three goals, Kane shared the Golden Boot. Under Tuchel's guidance at Bayern Munich, Kane netted 44 goals across all competitions.
Kane will continue as captain under Tuchel's leadership. "There's no need at the moment to look at other options," Tuchel stated. He praised Kane's qualities: "I admire him, for his quality, for his leadership, for his character." The coach values Kane's influence on and off the pitch.
Tuchel aims to build an exciting team that inspires fans: "The job now is to find and build the best group that people are excited to watch us." He believes in creating a squad with big personalities and quality players who can captivate audiences.
Tuchel stressed taking every opponent seriously: "There cannot be any other approach than taking it seriously." While England is favoured against Andorra, he insists on maintaining focus throughout qualifiers. The primary objective is qualification before dreaming of World Cup success.
The upcoming tournament will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. England has never lost against any of their Group K opponents. However, Tuchel remains cautious about underestimating any team as they strive for another successful World Cup campaign.
