Thomas Tuchel has decided not to release any players early for the Club World Cup. He aims to build a strong team for next year's World Cup. On Friday, Tuchel revealed his 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Andorra and a friendly against Senegal on June 10 at the City Ground. Ivan Toney was surprisingly included, while Phil Foden and any Manchester United players were left out.
The German coach, who started his tenure with victories over Albania and Latvia, is refining his squad for the 2026 World Cup. However, he faces a challenge next month as their friendly against Senegal is five days before the Club World Cup, involving eight of his selected players. The tournament will take place in the United States, with England captain Harry Kane's Bayern Munich playing Auckland City on the opening day.

Conor Gallagher, Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, and Reece James are also participating in the tournament. Trent Alexander-Arnold might join if Liverpool allows his transfer to Real Madrid in time. Tuchel emphasised the importance of this camp with one year until the World Cup. "Why send players if we want to cherish every day we have together?" he questioned.
Tuchel plans to maintain his squad of 26 throughout England's latest matches. He will manage playing time for those involved in the Club World Cup. "I was an advocate," Tuchel said about possibly allowing early departures for club commitments but stressed building team unity is crucial.
Tuchel explained why Phil Foden was omitted from the squad. Foden attributed his struggles during the 2024-25 season to off-field issues and an ankle injury. Despite being part of Pep Guardiola's Premier League-winning team last year, he only managed 15 goal involvements this season.
Tuchel reassured there is no concern over Foden's form and that his exclusion aims to help him rediscover joy in football. "Maybe we have got so used to his highest level that we are now worried," Tuchel told BBC Radio 5 Live. He believes it's just a dip in development and hopes Foden will regain form soon.
The coach expressed confidence in Foden's talent and potential return to form after a positive phone call with him. "We don't need to talk about his talent," Tuchel stated, highlighting their efforts to support Foden while acknowledging that much depends on him.
