Munich, Aug 3: Bayern Munich received a big setback before their season kick-off match against Borussia Dortmund in Saturday's DFL Super Cup tie as both Thiago and James Rodriguez are facing spells on the sidelines through injury.

The new signing James Rodriguez endured the injury during their 3-0 defeat match against Liverpool in the pre-season Audi Cup and later the Bundesliga champions announced that the Colombian international suffered a thigh injury and will be unavailable for the final.

A statement on the club's website read: 'FC Bayern will have to make do without new signing James Rodríguez in the coming weeks.

'A thorough examination by FC Bayern's medical unit revealed that the Columbian [sic] sustained a muscle injury to his right thigh in the 3-0 Audi Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool.'

Whereas another star player Thiago also sustained a stomach muscle injury during the match and has been duly ruled out of Saturday's season opener tie.

The statement added: 'Thiago Alcantara will miss the Super Cup final against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday with an abdominal muscle injury.

Left-back David Alaba also suffered a knock during the fixture however, the German champions later announced that there is no reason to worry for the Austrian as he is fit but will now train individually to gain fitness.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti also confirmed the injury news later in the press conference, however, insisted that he will not be signing any players as their replacement.

"That hasn't changed," Carlo said about new signing.

"Yes [James] has an injury and will be out for two or three weeks but it's not a big problem because the season hasn't really started yet. We are on time even if we lose an important player for two or three weeks."

Bayern's pre-season campaign has been disappointing for their fans as the Bundesliga giants only managed to win one matches out of the four and the Italian manager also agreed on the fact, however, insisted that he is confident that they will bounce back.

"Of course, we are not happy about the situation but the season has not started yet. We have the first official game on Saturday. We have to keep confident and prepare well for the game."
