UEFA Champions League: Arsenal vs Bayern Munich Preview

London, Feb 19: Arsene Wenger feels his side have the mental strength and spirit to overcome the task facing Bayern Munich while the German league leaders coach Jupp Heynkes says his side are hungry for success.

The Gunners' season has not been great so far and their UEFA Champions League challenge ended in the last 16 in the last two years. Wenger's side will be determined to put away their shocking loss to Blackburn at the weekend and will hope to progress as Bayern visit the Emirates stadium for the first-leg.

Last year's finalists Bayern have progressed from this round in three of the last seasons. The Bundesliga leaders finished on top of Group F but they have not won in five trips to London and have lost their last four visits to England.

The last time these two sides met in 2004/05 season, Bayern had the upper hand winning 3-1 at home and it was enough to go through even though Arsenal won 1-0 in the second-leg.

Wenger may play Thomas Vermaelen at left-back with Navho Monreal cup-tied, Kieran Gibbs injured and Andre Santos loaned out. Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla are expected to start after being benched in the loss to Blackburn while midfielder Mikel Arteta is expected to be fully fit.

Javi Martinez should recover in time after missing the previous game against Wolfsburg but forward Claudio Pizarro and Holger Badstuber will miss out due to injuries and Jerome Boateng is suspended.
