This season marks a historic transformation, moving away from the traditional group stage to a single 36-team league format. The revamp increases competitiveness, with each team playing eight matches against different opponents instead of the previous six against three fixed teams.
Under the updated system, all 36 teams are ranked in a single league table based on their performances. The top eight teams automatically advance to the Round of 16, while teams placed 9th to 24th enter a two-legged playoff. The winners of these playoffs will then join the top eight in the knockout rounds.
Another significant modification is the expanded match schedule, now spanning ten weeks instead of six, providing a broader and more intense competition.
After an intense league stage, the following eight teams have secured direct qualification to the Round of 16-
Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille, Aston Villa
These clubs have successfully bypassed the uncertainty of the playoffs and will await their opponents for the next round.
The teams finishing 9th to 24th in the standings will battle for a spot in the Round of 16 through a two-legged playoff. The following clubs have qualified for this stage:
