The UEFA Champions League knockout playoffs have been announced on Friday (January 31). The draw took place at Nyon and the 16 teams have learnt their fates.
The 2024-25 UEFA Champions League has introduced a revamped format, replacing the traditional group stage with a single 36-team league table. Each team played eight matches against different opponents, increasing competition and excitement.

Following the conclusion of the league phase, the top eight teams have secured direct entry into the Round of 16, while teams ranked 9th to 24th will battle in a two-legged playoff for the remaining knockout spots.
Liverpool finished as the top-ranked team with 21 points, alongside Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille, and Aston Villa, all of whom have advanced directly to the Round of 16.
The playoff round saw 16 clubs for the remaining knockout berths. The teams are- Atalanta, Dortmund, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, PSG, Benfica, Monaco, Stade Brest, Feyenoord, Juventus, Celtic, Man City, Sporting CP, and Club Brugge. The winners of the playoffs will then face the top-eight ranked teams in the Round of 16.
The two-legged playoff matches will be played on February 11-12 (1st Leg) and February 18-19 (2nd Leg).
The UEFA Champions League group stage positions determined the pairings for the playoffs. The teams ranked 9th to 16th were seeded while the teams ranked 17th to 24th were the unseeded. The brackets were organized in a way so that the teams finishing adjacent to each other can only meet in latter stages.
Atalanta (9th) or Borussia Dortmund (10th) vs Sporting CP (23rd) or Club Brugge (24th)
Real Madrid (11th) or Bayern Munich (12th) vs Celtic (21st) or Manchester City (22nd)
AC Milan (13th) or PSV Eindhoven (14th) vs Feyenoord (19th) or Juventus (20th)
PSG (15th) or Benfica (16th) vs AS Monaco (17th) or Stade Brest (18th)
Note: Remember, either team facing one of the other teams in the opposite pairing means the other team in the same pair shall play against the remaining team in the opposite pair.
Atalanta or Borussia Dortmund will be playing either against Sporting CP or Club Brugge. If Atalanta is drawn against Sporting CP, Dortmund is automatically drawn against Brugge or vice-versa. Atalanta or Dortmund can't play against each other.
