If you're a football fan eagerly awaiting the final round of UEFA Champions League group stage action, you may have noticed that there is no match scheduled for Tuesday, January 28.
This might feel unusual, given that the tournament typically dominates midweek evenings during its active phases.

The UEFA Champions League operates on a seasonal cycle, beginning with the group stage in September and concluding with the final in late May or early June. In the format introduced from this season, the group stage is set to conclude on Wednesday, with each team playing eight matches and a single points table of the 36 teams.
But there are no matches on Tuesday for a reason, which is associated with the league system. Generally, all the teams of the same group used to play the final gameweek together. As there are 36 teams stacked together, and Wednesday (Jan 29) is the final group stage match day, all the group stage matches will be played on Wednesday and will start at the same time, resulting no match on Tuesday.
At the moment, Liverpool are the only team who have qualified for the Round of 16. The Reds have won all of their seven group stage matches and are through to next round. The first 8 teams in the table will progress directly to the knockouts, while the teams placed 9th to 24th will be playing a playoff round in order for qualification.
