Unai Emery Confident In Aston Villa's Squad Depth Ahead Of Celtic Clash Despite Injury Woes

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery expresses confidence in his squad's ability to compete against Celtic despite injury concerns for Tyrone Mings. With limited options in defence, he believes the team can secure a vital win in the Champions League.

Aston Villa's manager, Unai Emery, remains optimistic despite defensive challenges due to injuries. Tyrone Mings' recent injury during a 1-1 draw with West Ham has left his participation against Celtic in doubt. With Pau Torres already out and Diego Carlos transferred to Fenerbahce, Ezri Konsa is the only fit centre-back. Emery believes his squad is capable of handling the situation.

Emery emphasised the importance of having versatile players ready to adapt. He mentioned Lucas Digne's ability to play as a centre-back due to his left-footed skills. "We have injured players but this is something everyone has," said Emery. "We had Carlos, he wanted to leave and he was pushing us to let him leave." Despite these challenges, Emery feels confident in his team's depth.

Emery Confident Ahead of Celtic Clash

Villa's recent 1-0 loss to Monaco has put pressure on them to secure a win against Celtic. Currently ninth with 13 points from seven matches, a victory could propel them into the top eight, ensuring direct qualification for the last 16. "If we are reaching it, of course, I want to be in the top eight," Emery stated.

Celtic, managed by Brendan Rodgers, are currently positioned 18th with 12 points. Their Champions League away record is concerning, with only one win in their last 21 games since September 2017 against Anderlecht. Rodgers has faced Aston Villa 19 times in his career, winning nine of those encounters.

Despite Celtic's struggles, Emery acknowledges their prestige and past success in the Champions League. "Celtic are a very prestigious club," he noted. The atmosphere at Villa Park is expected to be electric as fans rally behind their team.

Emery remains hopeful about Villa's prospects despite recent setbacks. He expressed optimism about finishing in the top eight if other results go their way. "Last week I was a little bit pessimistic after the match against Monaco," he admitted but added that overall progress has been positive.

The upcoming match against Celtic holds significant importance for both teams. While Villa aims for a top-eight finish, Celtic seeks redemption from their poor away form in Europe. The clash promises excitement as both sides strive for crucial points in the Champions League campaign.
