Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim explained his choice to substitute captain Bruno Fernandes during their 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford. Nikola Milenkovic, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Chris Wood scored for Forest, handing United a second consecutive Premier League defeat. Despite Fernandes' strong performance and scoring in the 61st minute, he was replaced by Mason Mount in the 75th minute as United struggled to break through Forest's defence.
Amorim justified his decision by stating, "Bruno was too tired and I wanted Mount to play that position of second midfielder who opens a bit on the left." He also mentioned that Joshua Zirkzee played alongside Rasmus Hojlund for better combinations, while Leny Yoro was substituted due to limited minutes. The manager added Harry Maguire for set-piece control and to win first balls against Nottingham.

Fernandes had earlier hit the woodwork from a free-kick in the first half. This result saw United drop to 13th place in the league standings. They had also suffered a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium earlier in the week. Amorim acknowledged the challenging schedule, saying it wasn't surprising given their busy fixture list.
Nottingham Forest's victory moved them up to fifth place, just two points behind Manchester City. Nuno Espirito Santo's team has accumulated 25 points from 15 matches with seven wins, four draws, and four losses. They rebounded from a midweek 3-0 loss to Manchester City by scoring early goals in both halves at Old Trafford.
Nuno praised his players' belief and composure, stating, "The belief of the players, believing every action is important [to scoring early goals]. The beginning of the second half was very good for us too." He emphasized the importance of bouncing back after setbacks and noted that fresh legs made a difference during the game.
As Manchester United prepares for their next Premier League match against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest will face Aston Villa. Amorim expressed disappointment for fans but remained committed to improving the team's performance despite recent setbacks.
"It's really disappointing for the fans," Amorim said. "After so many times with disappointment, but we are here to do a job and will continue doing the same things to improve the team."
