Uruguay vs Argentina: Why is Lionel Messi not playing Today?

Lionel Messi is missing the upcoming match against Uruguay due to a muscle injury in his left adductor. The injury occurred during Inter Miami’s recent MLS match against Atlanta United. Alongside Messi, Argentina will also be without key players Lautaro Martinez, Paulo Dybala, and Giovani Lo Celso, who are all sidelined with injuries.

With Messi absent, the attacking responsibilities will likely fall on Julian Álvarez and Nicolas Gonzalez. Alvarez has been in top form for Atletico Madrid, netting 16 goals and providing four assists in 26 appearances this season. Additionally, Giuliano Simeone is expected to make his debut for the national team, stepping in for the injured Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine Football Association has not yet set a definitive timeline for Messi’s return, stating that his recovery will be monitored closely. His injury also raises concerns for Inter Miami as they prepare for key fixtures, including a CONCACAF Champions Cup match against LAFC on April 2 and a crucial MLS clash with the Philadelphia Union on March 29. The club has yet to confirm a precise recovery timeline, noting that his return will depend on his response to treatment.

Despite the absence of their captain, Argentina remains confident in their ability to overcome challenges as they continue their journey toward World Cup qualification.
