Edwin Van Der Sar Supports Antony's Return To Manchester United After Successful Loan Spell

Edwin van der Sar believes Antony deserves another chance at Manchester United following a successful loan at Real Betis. Despite a challenging start, Antony excelled in LaLiga and could contribute positively next season.

Edwin van der Sar, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, supports giving Antony another opportunity under Ruben Amorim after his loan at Real Betis. Antony initially impressed at Manchester United, scoring in his first three Premier League matches following his high-profile transfer from Ajax in 2022.

Despite a promising start, Antony struggled to maintain momentum at Old Trafford. He found limited playing time under Erik ten Hag and managed only 12 goals and five assists across 96 appearances in all competitions. This led to a loan move to LaLiga's Real Betis for the latter part of last season.

Van der Sar Backs Antony for Man Utd Return

During his time with Real Betis, Antony thrived under Manuel Pellegrini's management. He scored nine goals and provided five assists across all competitions, helping the team reach the Europa Conference League final. His performance has sparked interest from Betis in making his move permanent.

Bayer Leverkusen, now led by Erik ten Hag, has also shown interest in acquiring Antony. However, Van der Sar believes that Manchester United should consider bringing him back for another chance next season as they aim to improve on their disappointing 2024-25 campaign.

"Luckily, I'm not in a position anymore to dictate at a club which kind of players have to come," Van der Sar stated. He acknowledged that Manchester United is on the right path by signing experienced strikers and hinted at potential future signings.

The club made two successful signings during the winter break, which Van der Sar believes will benefit them if they continue to support the manager. He mentioned Alejandro Garnacho's possible departure and suggested bringing Antony back, though he expressed uncertainty about its feasibility.

As Manchester United looks ahead to the next season, decisions regarding player transfers will be crucial. The club aims to strengthen its squad and improve its performance after a challenging campaign.
