Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk has called on fans to make Anfield an intimidating venue for visiting teams as they aim for the Premier League title. After a 2-0 victory over Manchester City, Liverpool now leads Arsenal by 11 points at the top of the table. This is their biggest lead since the final day of the 2019-20 season when they last won the title.
Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai scored in Liverpool's first win at Etihad Stadium since November 2015. Arsenal's 1-0 loss to West Ham on Saturday further boosted Liverpool's chances. According to Opta, Liverpool now has a 96.7% chance of winning the league, while Arsenal's chances have dropped to 3.3%, despite having a game in hand.

Liverpool will play seven of their remaining 11 Premier League matches at home. Van Dijk believes that fan support can significantly impact these games. "I mentioned it after that [Wolves] game, that obviously it's pretty normal to be [nervous] like that," he said. He added that anxious feelings are natural but can motivate both players and supporters to make Anfield challenging for opponents.
Van Dijk emphasised the importance of making Anfield loud and supportive during these home games. "How many home games are left? Seven out of 11," he noted, urging fans to ensure these matches are as loud as possible. He encouraged everyone to focus on the upcoming match against Newcastle United.
Van Dijk has played every minute of Liverpool's Premier League season so far, totalling 2,340 minutes, and is expected to continue this streak against Newcastle United on Wednesday. Since losing their first Premier League home game against Newcastle in April 1994, Liverpool remains unbeaten in their last 28 encounters with them at Anfield (23 wins and five draws).
Despite their commanding position in the title race, Van Dijk remains cautious and focused. With his contract set to expire in June, he might leave Liverpool at the end of the season but insists on maintaining tunnel vision for now.
"[City] was a big win," Van Dijk stated, reminding his teammates not to take victories for granted but instead recover and prepare for Newcastle. He stressed that nothing else matters except focusing on each match ahead and urged fans to be in great shape for Wednesday's game.
Liverpool's strong position in the league is bolstered by their impressive record against Newcastle at Anfield. The team aims to maintain this momentum as they approach crucial fixtures in their pursuit of another Premier League title.
