Ruud van Nistelrooy has acknowledged that Leicester City's chances of staying in the Premier League have vanished following their 2-0 loss to Manchester City. This defeat came after Wolves, sitting in 17th place, extended their lead to 12 points with a win over West Ham. Leicester, currently 19th, struggled at the Etihad Stadium.
Jack Grealish netted his first Premier League goal since December 2023 just two minutes into the match. Omar Marmoush, filling in for the injured Erling Haaland, added another goal for Manchester City. Leicester managed only two shots throughout the game, marking their 14th defeat in the last 15 league matches and their seventh consecutive loss without scoring.

The Foxes' current form is reminiscent of Crystal Palace's record from September 2017 when they lost eight straight games without scoring. Van Nistelrooy admitted that Leicester is now playing for pride with only 24 points left to compete for. He stated: "We can be real about it, 12 points with eight games to play... It's a very big difference, too much."
Van Nistelrooy emphasised the importance of focusing on each game and presenting themselves well. "That is the main target now," he said. Before facing Manchester City, he had already warned his players about the significant gap and urged them to make the most of their remaining time at this level.
Discussing Leicester's difficulty in scoring goals, Van Nistelrooy remarked: "Ironic, isn't it? It's hard for all of us." He pointed out that despite their efforts to improve, mistakes led to conceding goals against City. The challenge remains significant with eight games left.
Manchester City's manager Pep Guardiola expressed satisfaction with his team's performance as they climbed above Chelsea into fourth place. He noted: "We didn't concede anything except one chance at the end." Despite missing a third goal for comfort, Guardiola was pleased with his team's focus and composure.
Reflecting on Grealish's goal after a long drought since a draw with Crystal Palace 16 months ago, Guardiola commented: "It's not easy when you don't play regularly." He praised Grealish for adapting well to a central role despite being more comfortable on the sides.
The situation remains challenging for Leicester City as they aim to finish the season strongly despite their relegation battle. With limited games left, Van Nistelrooy and his team must strive to represent themselves positively on the field.
