Ruud van Nistelrooy is eager to manage Manchester United in the future. Currently, he plans to return as an assistant coach under Ruben Amorim. After joining Old Trafford as one of Erik ten Hag's assistants, he stepped up as caretaker head coach following his compatriot's dismissal last month. Van Nistelrooy has led the team to victories against Leicester City in the EFL Cup and PAOK in the Europa League, with a draw against Chelsea in the Premier League.
When asked about managing the team where he scored 150 goals during his playing career, Van Nistelrooy expressed interest. "Yeah, of course," he said. He explained that joining Manchester United as an assistant was a special opportunity and part of his journey with the club. He signed a two-year deal as an assistant and remains committed to that role for now.

The Dutchman will oversee his final game as caretaker manager against Leicester City on Sunday before Amorim takes over. Despite questions about his future with Amorim bringing in new staff, Van Nistelrooy is focused on preparing United for Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford.
Van Nistelrooy brings managerial experience from his time at PSV Eindhoven, where he won the Dutch Cup in his only season. During that tenure, he achieved a win rate of 66.67%, winning 34 out of 50 games and scoring 126 goals. His contract with United runs until 2026.
Reflecting on recent matches, Van Nistelrooy said, "I called it an important period because I think it was important to get through the four games as good as we could." He praised the players' response and aims to build on their performance for Sunday's crucial match.
Despite potential changes with Amorim's staff arriving, Van Nistelrooy remains pragmatic about his role. "I don't know if it will be very emotional," he stated regarding Sunday's match. He feels proud to have fulfilled this role but approaches it practically.
As Van Nistelrooy prepares for what might be his second farewell at Old Trafford, he remains optimistic about ending this stint positively. United have a strong record against Leicester City, losing only twice in their last 17 Premier League encounters (W10 D5). These defeats occurred consecutively in May and October 2021.
The focus now is on securing three vital points against Leicester City before transitioning leadership to Amorim.
