Vinicius Junior expressed frustration towards his critics after being named the men's player of the year at the FIFA Best Awards in Doha. The Real Madrid and Brazil star had an outstanding 2023-24 season, scoring a personal best of 24 goals and aiding Los Blancos in securing LaLiga and Champions League titles. This recognition came seven weeks after losing the Ballon d'Or to Manchester City's Rodri.
Despite his achievements, Vinicius has faced racial abuse in Spain over recent seasons. He joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018 and has been determined to silence his critics. On Instagram, he declared, "I came, I saw, I won," reflecting on his journey from a young fan to being recognised as the world's best player.

The forward emphasised his resilience against those trying to undermine him. "They tried and continue to try to cancel me, to belittle me. But they're not able to," he stated. Vinicius also highlighted that no one can dictate whom he should support or how he should act, recalling his struggles growing up in Sao Goncalo.
Vinicius credited his success to the support from Flamengo, Real Madrid, the Brazilian national team, and fellow players who have been part of his daily life. He acknowledged their admiration and shared that winning was for himself and his family. "I won for me, for my family," he said, appreciating those who stood by him.
His determination has been unwavering despite challenges. "When I was in [hometown] Sao Goncalo, the system didn't work for me. I was almost swallowed up," Vinicius remarked about overcoming obstacles on his path to success.
