Virgil van Dijk has committed to Liverpool with a new contract extending his stay beyond the 2024-25 season. His previous agreement was set to end soon, but like Mohamed Salah, who renewed his contract last week, Van Dijk has secured a two-year extension. This ensures the Liverpool captain remains a key figure at the club.

Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 for a then-record fee of £75 million for a defender. Since his debut, he has made 314 appearances across all competitions. His defensive prowess is evident as he ranks second in Premier League clearances since joining, with only James Tarkowski ahead of him.

In terms of duels won among defenders in the Premier League during this period, Van Dijk is second only to Tarkowski. He has been instrumental in achieving 97 league clean sheets for Liverpool. Additionally, Van Dijk has scored 27 goals for the club, more than any other Premier League defender in that timeframe.

"I'm very happy, very proud," Van Dijk expressed on the club's website. "There are so many emotions, obviously, that go through my head right now, speaking about it."

The Dutch defender has been part of Liverpool's triumphs in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and two EFL Cups. He also contributed to victories in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. Currently, he is poised to lead Liverpool to another Premier League title as they hold a significant lead at the top of the table.
