Cristiano Ronaldo, according to his Portugal teammate Vitinha, is determined to participate in the 2026 World Cup. The Portuguese captain holds the international records for most caps (216) and goals (133) since his debut in August 2003. Ronaldo led Portugal to victories at Euro 2016 and the first Nations League three years later.
The 39-year-old has played in five World Cup tournaments from 2006 to 2022, but the ultimate trophy has remained out of reach. Despite his achievements, Ronaldo faced criticism after failing to score at Euro 2024, where Portugal exited at the quarter-final stage against France on penalties. Some argue that his presence now hampers the team's progress.

Vitinha, however, believes Ronaldo will be part of the squad for the World Cup in North America when he turns 41. "Of course, he will be there [at the 2026 World Cup]; he's not going to give up," Vitinha stated confidently.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha expressed admiration for Ronaldo's enduring career. "39 years old and still a starter for the national team, I have no explanation for this longevity," he shared on RMC podcast Rothen s'enflamme. He attributes Ronaldo's success to his professionalism and dedication throughout his career.
"He has already said it, and I imagine it's the professionalism he has in everything he does," Vitinha continued. "In the morning, in the evening, every day of his career, it's incredible." He acknowledged the sacrifices Ronaldo has made to maintain his condition at 39 years old.
Vitinha feels privileged to play alongside Ronaldo. "It's a privilege for me. We are small; we are children; we dream of playing with him one day, and it's happening," he said. He cherishes the opportunity to share time on the national team with such an iconic player.
Ronaldo's commitment and determination continue to inspire both teammates and fans alike. His journey remains a testament to hard work and perseverance as he aims for another World Cup appearance.
