Miedema Opts For Manchester City Seeking Fresh Challenges In WSL

Vivianne Miedema trusted her instincts when she chose to transfer from Arsenal to Manchester City. During her seven-year tenure with the Gunners, she became the Women's Super League's all-time leading scorer, amassing 79 goals. She also set a record for the most goals in a single WSL season with 22 and scored 125 goals in 179 appearances for Arsenal.

After two injury-plagued seasons in North London, Miedema is eager for a fresh challenge and believes City will offer that. "I've been in the league for a long, long time and my gut feeling told me that I really wanted to stay in England," Miedema said. "I've spoken to multiple clubs in England and also abroad."

Miedema was particularly impressed by how other players spoke about Manchester City. "Obviously, when I started speaking to City, I got really, really excited, mostly by the way they play but also by how other players actually talk about the club and about how things were going," she explained.

The Citizens narrowly missed out on winning the WSL title last season due to Chelsea's superior goal difference. They will begin their new WSL campaign against Miedema's former club Arsenal on September 22.

"Eventually, I think to myself, I want to challenge myself and I know this wasn't the easy option, obviously moving within England as well," Miedema stated. "But I got really excited about being a part of this City team and that's why, in the end, I followed my gut feeling by going with City."

Miedema had considered offers from various clubs both within England and abroad before making her decision. Her excitement grew as she learned more about City's playing style and the positive feedback from other players.
