Walcott reveals why he left Arsenal for Everton

London, Feb 9: Latest Everton signing Theo Walcott has lifted the lids on his Arsenal exit by insisting that he left the club because he believed under Toffees boss Sam Allardyce he can be back to his best again.

Walcott was getting a very limited start at Emirates under Wenger for the last couple of seasons and this season only started 15 times for Arsenal – just six of which were in the Premier League.

And with World Cup knocking at the door, the winger decided to jump the ship to challenge for a spot in next year's World Cup squad and the English international has already made an immediate impact in his Goodison career as he has already notched up two goals and one assist in three games.

And while talking about his exit from his boyhood club, Walcott suggested he took the decision to move from Arsenal only for Sam Allardyce because he believes working with his former England manager can now get the best out of him.

“Sam was one of the main reasons why I came to the club,” Walcott told the club’s website. “I wanted a manager like that who could get the best out of me.

“I had that short stint with Sam with England and to see it now every day, the way the intensity of training is and how demanding it is has been great. I like to go into training every day and try to be better than the day before.”

After loitering in the relegation battle previously in this season under former boss Koeman, Allardyce has steadied the sinking ship as of now who are now 10th in the table.

However, their survival in the Premier League is still not confirmed as they are only seven points above the relegation zone after 26th game week and their road to recovery hit a serious roadblock in their last game when they lost 5-1 against Arsenal.

And while talking about his team's target of this season, Walcott suggested points are now the priority as Everton bid to stave off a fresh threat of relegation and they are looking at a fresh start in their next game against Crystal Palace in this weekend after Arsenal thumping.

“Results will change. We need to make sure we are ready and focused for the weekend because we need to start getting some more points in order to be more comfortable,” he added.

“There have been a few recent results like getting the draw against West Brom and then beating Leicester where we have seen improved performances but I have come here to push Everton on.”
