Wales Secures Narrow 1-0 Victory Over Liechtenstein To Maintain World Cup Play-off Aspirations

Jordan James' goal secures a vital 1-0 win for Wales against Liechtenstein, keeping their World Cup play-off hopes alive. Despite dominating possession, Wales struggled to convert chances ahead of a crucial match against North Macedonia.

Jordan James ensured Wales remained in contention for the World Cup by scoring the decisive goal in a narrow 1-0 victory over Liechtenstein at Rheinpark Stadion. The 21-year-old found the net in the 61st minute but will miss the crucial match against North Macedonia due to a suspension from a yellow card.

Despite controlling possession early, Wales struggled to create clear chances. Jordan James had an early shot saved by Benjamin Buchel. Nathan Broadhead missed a significant chance after rounding the goalkeeper and had a goal disallowed for offside interference. He also squandered another opportunity in the first half.

Wales Beats Liechtenstein 1-0 in World Cup Qualifier

Dan James came close to scoring when his volley hit the post 56 minutes into the game. Shortly after, he assisted Jordan James, who scored his first goal for Wales with a tap-in from a low cross. Lewis Koumas also missed a chance, shooting wide before Sandro Wolfinger's late attempt for Liechtenstein went past the post.

Wales remains third in Group J, tied on points with North Macedonia. The upcoming match between these two teams will determine who secures the play-off spot. The stakes are high as both teams vie for advancement.

The game was not Wales' best performance, but Craig Bellamy will be satisfied with staying competitive against North Macedonia. As anticipated, Wales dominated possession with 77.4%, completing over three times more passes than Liechtenstein (693 to 201). Despite this dominance, they only converted one of their 18 shots into a goal.

Wales managed seven shots on target out of their total attempts, generating an expected goals (xG) value of 2.39. In contrast, Liechtenstein's limited offensive efforts resulted in just 0.29 xG from three off-target shots.
