Wales Advances To Euro 2025 Final Qualifying Round After Comeback Against Slovakia

Wales moved a step closer to securing a spot in their first major tournament by overcoming Slovakia in Cardiff. Rhian Wilkinson's team was trailing 2-1 after the first leg of their Euro 2025 qualifying play-offs. However, they equalised on aggregate in the 38th minute when Jess Fishlock scored with a chip over Slovakia's goalkeeper Maria Korenciova, following a pass from Angharad James-Turner.

In the second half, Fishlock had two goals disallowed for offside, pushing the match into extra time. With just eight minutes left, substitute Kayleigh Barton hit the post, but Ceri Holland capitalised on the rebound to score. The goal was confirmed after a VAR review.

The Republic of Ireland will be Wales' next opponent in the second round of play-offs. The Irish team secured their place with an impressive 9-0 aggregate win over Georgia. Meanwhile, Norway dominated Albania with a 14-0 aggregate victory, thanks to Frida Maanum's four goals.

Norway's triumph sets up a match against Northern Ireland, who narrowly defeated Croatia with Lauren Wade's extra-time goal. Sweden also advanced after defeating Luxembourg 12-0 on aggregate and will face Serbia next. Serbia progressed by beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 6-3.

Scotland is through to the final qualifying round as well, following their 4-0 win over Hungary that completed a 5-0 aggregate victory. They are set to compete against Finland, who overcame Montenegro with a 6-0 aggregate scoreline.
