Wales coach Craig Bellamy expressed mixed emotions following his team's 1-1 draw against North Macedonia in the World Cup qualifiers. The match saw Wales concede a goal due to Joe Allen's defensive error in the 91st minute, only for David Brooks to level the score five minutes later. Bellamy remarked, "A rollercoaster of emotions. A game we were more in control of than I thought we would be."
Despite the late drama, Bellamy was impressed with his team's performance and resilience. He noted that North Macedonia played defensively with five at the back, contrary to his expectations. Reflecting on the match, he said, "We knew they’d play for set-plays and we kept giving away free-kicks and a corner. Then we made a mistake and they scored, but even then I didn’t feel it was over."

The draw leaves Wales second in Group J with four points, tied with North Macedonia at the top. However, Belgium, considered favourites, have yet to play their matches. Bellamy acknowledged the importance of this point but felt there was potential for more from his squad. "I’d have liked six points," he admitted.
David Brooks, who scored the equaliser, shared similar sentiments about the team's performance. He praised his teammates' efforts before he entered the pitch and believed they deserved more than just one point from the encounter in Skopje. "The performance from the lads before I came on was absolutely fantastic," Brooks stated.
Bellamy remains optimistic about what lies ahead for Wales in their qualifying campaign. He senses untapped potential within his squad and is eager to see how they progress. "There could be something more coming from them and I’m quite excited about that," he mentioned.
Brooks echoed this optimism by highlighting the quality within the team and their ability to perform under pressure. He emphasised that while they should have secured an earlier goal, taking a point from such a challenging situation was satisfactory.
The match showcased Wales' determination and skill despite not securing all three points. Both Bellamy and Brooks believe that with continued effort and focus on details, future matches could yield better results for their team.
