'Watch and Burn': East Bengal fans taunt Mohun Bagan fans after Anwar Ali signing

A full-on thriller drama surrounding the Indian national team player Anwar Ali is almost at an end. Jumping through many complications, the defender who played for Mohun Bagan last year has now signed for their arch-rivals East Bengal and the fans cannot get over it.

Both teams' fans have taken over social media to comment on the rivalry that bled into the summer transfer window this time. It didn't begin with Anwar though, but rather started with Apuia Ralte. The Torch Bearers were interested in the midfielder but Mohun Bagan snatched the opportunity to buy the national team player.

The rivalry between the two clubs meant that the Mariners fans did not hesitate to troll their rival fans. That's why after East Bengal secured the signature of Anwar, their fans have taken over the internet to respond in the same manner. One fan wrote on twitter, "Watch and learn burn."

An East Bengal fan group's Twitter handle mentioned a quote from Anwar's unveiling yesterday, "Anwar Ali: Derby khelenge aur jitenge fir baaten karenge." (Will play the Derby and win and then speak.) However, the Mariners' fans who felt betrayed by their former player's current behavior are responding along with responding to their rivals' trolls.

One Mohun Bagan fan wrote, "More like Mohun Bagan rejected his tantrums. As mentioned very clearly by Anwar Ali here, His first preference was to continue at Bagan. We don't entertain blackmailing, and he got rejected and illegally broke the existing deal." Another fan wrote, "Guyz for every cheater Anwar, there is a loyal Vishal Kaith who still motivates you love football."

Anwar Ali joined Mohun Bagan at the beginning of last season from Delhi FC on a 4-year loan deal. As the season ended, the player wanted a permanent deal from the Mariners. His previous employers, Delhi FC got involved in the matter, and in the midst of chaos, Anwar signed with East Bengal. AIFF is yet to take a decision on punishment for both Anwar and East Bengal.
