Watford Sacks Head Coach Ed Still After Short Tenure At Vicarage Road
Watford have removed head coach Ed Still after a poor end to the Championship season, less than three months after the appointment. The team closed the campaign in 16th place, 16 points behind Hull City, who secured the final play-off position, after results declined sharply under Still.
When Still replaced Javi Garcia in February on a two-and-a-half-year contract at Vicarage Road, Watford were 11th and only three points outside the play-off places. However, there were just three wins from 15 league matches, with four draws and eight defeats during that period.

The final weeks were especially difficult for Watford under head coach Ed Still. The club ended the season with five defeats in a row, including a 4-0 loss to champions Coventry City on the last day. Across those five games, Watford scored once and conceded 16 goals.
Across Still’s short spell as Watford head coach, the side collected an average of 0.87 points per match, with a win rate of 20%. First Team Coach Karim Belhocine also departed. Watford are now looking for a 12th manager since the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
Watford’s decision to dismiss head coach Ed Still reflects concern over the slide from play-off contention to a mid-table finish. The club’s next appointment will again attempt to bring stability after another quick change in the dugout, with recent results and league position shaping that search.
