Bengaluru, September 4: Everton striker Wayne Rooney claims new Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku is the perfect striker for his former club.

The 31-year-old left Manchester United earlier this summer window after a 13 years spell to join his boyhood club Everton as the all-time top scorer, where he initially left Goodison Park for Old Trafford as a teenager.

Rooney made just 25 appearances in all competitions last season because of the addition of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it eventually led the England international to end his illustrious career at Manchester United for more game time elsewhere.

As his replacement, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku came to Old Trafford to take the number nine role in Mourinho's team and since the very first day, the Belgian made a quick impression with his goal scoring feat.

Lukaku has already nicked in three goals in Manchester United’s opening three Premier League matches and also was a hit in United's successful pre-season campaign.

And seeing the 24-year-old's form, Manchester United's all-time top scorer has now stated that his former side have certainly managed to sign the perfect player.

"For that United side, he is the perfect player," Rooney said in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT.

"He is powerful, quick and strong and he scores goals, so certainly will improve that team."

The recently retired England international has also backed his former manager Jose Mourinho for a fruitful season and suggested although he faced a tough time last season, he will slowly but surely take this team to the highest possible level.

"Jose came in and last season in the league we struggled and weren't consistent enough.

"Obviously in the cups United did well. I  could see   where Jose was going with the team and they will be a big success."

Rooney has recently announced his retirement from international football, but he has already made his presence felt at Everton with two goals in three Premier League fixtures.
