"We Will Be Requesting It Again": Is Donald Trump Hinting At Another US FIFA World Cup Bid?

New Delhi, July 20: American President Donald Trump on Sunday confirmed that the country would look to bid again for the FIFA World Cup, expressing that Washington has confidence in successfully staging the tournament after hosting the current edition.

The American President's remarks came during an interview with Fox Sports ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. According to Trump, the FIFA World Cup 2026 has received an overwhelming response, and based on that, the US football association would request FIFA to host the tournament once again.

"Based on the numbers, we will be requesting it again immediately... We have to do this again, and we have to do it while I'm around. You hear that, Gianni?" Trump added, referring to the FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Idea Of Alternate Host Announcements

Trump also floated the idea of FIFA announcing multiple future hosts at the same time to reduce disappointment among unsuccessful bidding nations.

"I had a great idea for Gianni. I said, you have to do two countries. So announce us again next time and announce another country after that. That'll take out some of the anger and the shock," he said.

Speaking to Fox Sports, Trump also highlighted the economic impact of the FIFA World Cup on the United States, claiming the tournament had attracted huge crowds and generated significant spending from international visitors.

"We're the hottest country in the world right now... For lot of other reasons, we have trillions of dollars being spent in the United States. They're (people) coming from all over the world and spending their money here. We've never had a period of, I call it the golden age of America. It's amazing... the World Cup has really helped. It's been tremendous...Nobody thought it was possible. The numbers that it's many times what's ever been done before. So that's great," Trump told Fox Sports.

Trump Sees 'Universal Microcosm Of Life' In Football

Asked about the unique ability of sport to bring people together across cultures and nations, Trump described it as a universal language that resonates with everyone.
"It's just universal. It's a microcosm of life. You win, lose. But with sports, you see it over a two-hour period. In life, you go a whole life before you realize whether or not you're a winner or a loser," he said.

Meanwhile, Spain and Argentina locked horns in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final before a crowd of more than 80,000 spectators, with both nations chasing football's ultimate prize.
The La Roja are featuring in only their second World Cup final after lifting the trophy in 2010, while Argentina is aiming for a fourth title, having previously been crowned champions in 1978, 1986, and 2022. The Albiceleste have also finished runners-up in 1930, 1990, and 2014.

The two countries have met just once before in World Cup history, with Argentina recording a 2-1 victory over Spain during the 1966 tournament.
