West Brom have named former Minnesota United boss Eric Ramsay as head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract, replacing Ryan Mason, who left on Tuesday. Ramsay inherits a side placed 18th in the Championship, sitting 10 points outside the play-off positions, and faces immediate pressure to lift results.
The 34-year-old arrives at the Hawthorns with Premier League experience, after working as a first-team coach at Manchester United during Erik ten Hag's tenure. West Brom expect that background, combined with recent success in Major League Soccer, to help stabilise a struggling squad and sharpen performances.

Ramsay moved to Minnesota United in 2024 and guided the Loons to back-to-back MLS play-off semi-finals. During that spell, Minnesota also secured the club's highest league finish, taking fourth place in the Western Conference last season, underlining a consistent challenge near the top of the table.
Across 65 MLS matches with Minnesota, Ramsay recorded 29 wins, 16 draws and 20 defeats, giving a win rate of 44.6%. Those figures built Ramsay’s reputation as a coach capable of improving teams over time, while working within the demands of a competitive conference.
Albion chairman Shilan Patel highlighted the qualities seen during the search for a new coach. Patel said: "Throughout our recruitment process, Eric exhibited the qualities to lead and succeed in the world's most demanding football environment. In his time as a head coach, his teams have been characterised by intensity, organisation, and adaptabilityall critical for the sustained success and growth that we envision in the short and long term."
West Brom announced the appointment on social media, confirming Ramsay will lead the men's first team. The club welcomed the new coach publicly and underlined the scale of the role, with the team currently in the bottom half of the Championship table.
Ramsay will again work with Dennis Lawrence, who served as assistant at Minnesota United and now joins West Brom in the same role. Lawrence previously formed part of Mark Robins' backroom team during Robins' spell at Coventry City, adding EFL knowledge to the technical group at the Hawthorns.
Ramsay’s debut in the West Brom dugout comes against second-placed Middlesbrough at the Hawthorns next Friday. That fixture offers an early test against promotion contenders, and provides a first chance for supporters to assess Ramsay’s methods in a competitive Championship environment.
Ramsay’s strongest league campaign with Minnesota arrived in 2025, when the side set club records for regular-season wins, with 16, and total points, with 58. Minnesota scored 61 goals that year, with only Seattle Sounders on 65, Los Angeles FC on 73, San Diego FC on 74 and Vancouver Whitecaps on 76 managing more in the Western Conference.
The main figures from Ramsay's spell in Major League Soccer can be summarised as follows.
| Team | Competition | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses | Win percentage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minnesota United | MLS (overall) | 65 | 29 | 16 | 20 | 44.6% |
| Minnesota United | 2025 regular season | - | 16 wins | - | - | - |
With West Brom adrift of the play-off spots and facing strong opponents early in Ramsay's tenure, the club will look to the coach’s record of organisation, intensity and adaptability at Minnesota and Manchester United as indicators that results can improve over the remaining Championship campaign.
