West Ham Relegation 2026: Tomas Soucek Commits To Club Amid Ankle Injury
Tomas Soucek states full commitment to helping West Ham United return to the Premier League, even while recovering from an ankle ligament injury picked up with Czechia at the World Cup, and plans to support the squad from the sidelines before returning to action later in the 2026-27 season.
West Ham drop into the Championship after finishing 18th in the 2025-26 Premier League, ending two points behind rivals Tottenham, with their 39-point tally the highest total for a relegated side since Birmingham City and Blackpool both went down with 39 points in 2010-11.

Soucek, now 31, plays a central role for West Ham during the campaign, appearing in 35 of 38 league matches, scoring five goals to sit joint-fourth in the club’s scoring charts, while also ranking high for duels and tackles across the squad during a difficult domestic season.
Data from the league season underlines Soucek’s influence, despite the eventual relegation, with strong numbers across attacking and defensive categories for West Ham.
{TABLE_1}| Category | Soucek 2025-26 (Premier League) |
|---|---|
| League appearances | 35 |
| Goals | 5 (joint-fourth for West Ham) |
| Duels won | 136 (fifth-most at club) |
| Tackles | 24 (joint-sixth at club) |
During international duty with Czechia at the World Cup, Soucek sustains an ankle problem that West Ham later confirm as ligament damage, meaning Soucek is expected to miss the opening phase of the 2026-27 Championship campaign, including the first league fixture against fellow relegated side Burnley on 16 August.
Soucek addresses the situation in detail on X, reflecting on the way the season ends for both West Ham and the Czech Republic, expressing regret for results, acknowledging the first major injury of a 12-year professional career, and promising to maintain determination during rehabilitation and eventual return.
This isnt how I imagined ending the season, Soucek said on his X account.
Not with West Ham. Not with the Czech Republic. And certainly not with an injury. Im sorry we couldnt give our fans the moments and results you deserved. That hurts me more than anything. For 12 years as a professional, Ive been lucky enough to avoid a serious injury. Now I have to face a challenge I havent faced before. But everyone who knows me knows one thing. I never give up! Since the season ended, Ive only had one thing on my mind. West Ham United. This club means so much to me and Im ready to do everything I can in helping get it back to where it belongs; to the English Premier League. For the immediate future, Ill support the boys off the pitch whilst I rehabilitate. Then once back, Ill give everything I have on the pitch, fighting alongside the boys once again.
West Ham now prepare for life in the Championship after their first Premier League relegation since the 2010-11 campaign, and Soucek’s statements underline an intention to remain influential, first as a vocal presence off the pitch, then as a key midfielder when fully fit.
