West Ham United have finalised the acquisition of Mads Hermansen, a goalkeeper from Leicester City, for £20 million. Graham Potter sought a new goalkeeper after Lukasz Fabianski left as a free agent, leaving Alphonse Areola and Wes Foderingham as the club's primary options. The team was initially linked with Botafogo's John Victor but opted for Hermansen instead.
Hermansen has signed a five-year contract with West Ham. He expressed his excitement about joining the club, stating on their website, "I'm happy to join West Ham United. I've felt that West Ham would be a good fit for me and my style of play for a long time. It feels natural to be here—it was a very easy decision. The fans can expect me to be brave and bring good energy to help the team in the best way I can. This is a great step in my career. I have huge ambitions and I can't wait to get started."

The Danish international spent two seasons at Leicester City before moving to West Ham. During his time with Leicester, Hermansen played 27 Premier League matches last season but managed only one clean sheet. His save percentage stood at 63.3%, ranking him fourth-worst among goalkeepers who played at least ten games.
Despite his efforts, Hermansen could not prevent Leicester from relegation last season after they finished 18th in the league standings. However, he did contribute significantly to their Championship victory in the 2023-24 season after joining from Brondby.
Hermansen was introduced to fans at London Stadium before a friendly against Lille on Saturday. He is expected to make his debut in the upcoming season opener against Sunderland next week.
This transfer marks an important step in Hermansen's career as he aims to establish himself as a key player for West Ham United. With high ambitions and enthusiasm, he looks forward to contributing positively to his new team.
