West Ham United Women Secure 2-0 Win Over Aston Villa With Late Goals
West Ham climbed into 10th place in the Women’s Super League after a 2-0 win at Aston Villa, securing a first league victory over Villa since 2022 and moving above Liverpool while cutting Villa’s recent record to one win from eight matches.
The result came despite Villa recording stronger attacking numbers, including higher possession and more attempts on goal, but West Ham produced a ruthless late surge, with Riko Ueki and substitute Seraina Piubel scoring in the closing minutes at Villa Park.

West Ham had already guaranteed WSL safety for next season before kick-off, yet this result narrowed the gap to Villa to a single point, while Villa entered this fixture after a 36-day break from league action and still could not turn territorial dominance into goals, posting 1.53 expected goals to West Ham’s 0.84.
The breakthrough arrived on 86 minutes when West Ham’s high press forced a turnover in Villa territory, allowing Ueki to spot Sabrina D'Angelo off the line and send a measured lob over the goalkeeper, before Ueki turned creator six minutes later, glancing the ball into the path of Piubel, who kept calm and finished neatly to confirm the three points.
Villa attempted 617 passes, their highest total in a WSL match this season, and turned that control into five shots on target, yet West Ham goalkeeper Megan Walsh resisted everything, keeping a clean sheet that set the stage for Ueki’s decisive goal and assist as West Ham scored with both efforts on target, ending a six-game winless spell against Villa.

The game highlighted contrasting qualities, with Villa’s buildup play and shooting volume unable to deliver a breakthrough, while West Ham’s compact shape and sharp decision-making near full-time secured consecutive league victories and strengthened mid-table positioning before the final stretch of the Women’s Super League season.
