West Ham Women Sack Rehanne Skinner After Poor WSL Start

West Ham United Women have dismissed head coach Rehanne Skinner following a 11-game winless run in the Women's Super League. The club aims to improve performance as it searches for a new appointment, with several results below expectations contributing to the decision.

West Ham have dismissed Rehanne Skinner after a difficult Women's Super League run, with just one win from 11 league matches in the 2025-26 campaign. Skinner’s departure leaves West Ham 11th in the table, as the club moves quickly to change direction mid-season.

Skinner’s final game in charge came last Saturday at Chigwell Construction Stadium, where West Ham twice went ahead but drew against bottom side Liverpool. That result underlined wider problems for the team, who have collected only five points from their opening 11 WSL fixtures.

West Ham sack Skinner after poor start

West Ham’s league record this season stands at one win, two draws and eight defeats, the lowest points total the side have recorded after 11 matches in any Women's Super League campaign. The poor return contributed directly to the decision to end Skinner’s tenure on Friday.

The struggles have been clear at both ends of the pitch. West Ham have conceded 23 goals in the 2025-26 WSL season, more than any other club so far. In attack, West Ham have scored nine goals, with only Liverpool on eight and Leicester City on seven managing fewer.

Skinner joined West Ham in June 2023 from London rivals Tottenham, taking charge of a team already under pressure near the bottom. Under Skinner, West Ham ended the 2023-24 WSL season second from bottom, then finished fourth from the foot of the standings in the following league campaign.

Across 55 Women's Super League matches as West Ham head coach, Skinner oversaw 10 victories, 13 draws and 32 defeats. That WSL record gave Skinner a win rate of 18.2 percent, while West Ham averaged 0.78 points per game during that period, underlining long-term difficulties.

West Ham United issued an official announcement confirming the change. "West Ham United can confirm that women's team head coach Rehanne Skinner has left the club with immediate effect, a club statement read. Recent results have not matched expectations and the board of directors believes that a change is necessary to help improve the team's position in the WSL as soon as possible. The board would like to thank Rehanne for her hard work and commitment during her time with the Hammers and wish her every success for the future. The process of recruiting a new women's team head coach is underway. The club will make no further comment at this time."

West Ham fixtures and Women’s Super League outlook after Rehanne Skinner exit

The timing of the decision means a new head coach will face important fixtures quickly. West Ham host Manchester City in the League Cup quarter-final this Sunday. After the winter break, West Ham return to Women's Super League action against reigning champions Chelsea on January 11.

The board has already started the search for a replacement, with the club hoping stability can be restored after a long run of poor league results. Whoever takes charge next will inherit a side low in the table, struggling in both defence and attack, yet still with time to climb.
