What Will be Ruud van Nistelrooy’s First Game In-Charge as Interim Manchester United Manager after Erik Ten Hag Sacking?

Manchester United have parted ways with Erik ten Hag following a difficult start to the season, marking the end of his tenure after more than two and half years in charge.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former United legend and Ten Hag's assistant, has been named interim manager and will aim to turn the tide for the struggling club.

Ten Hag, who narrowly survived an internal review in the summer overseen by INEOS's new football leadership team, had been under mounting pressure due to United's poor form.

The team currently sits 14th in the Premier League with only three wins from nine matches and suffered a significant setback with a 2-1 loss to West Ham last weekend.

Additionally, United’s dismal performance in the Europa League, where they failed to secure a win in their first three games, contributed to the decision.

Van Nistelrooy’s interim role offers him the chance to revive United’s season, and his managerial journey is noteworthy.

The former PSV Eindhoven manager enjoyed a successful spell with the Dutch club, leading them to the KNVB Cup title in his first season. His appointment to United’s backroom staff this summer marked a homecoming, and now he takes the reins of his former team.

What will be Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game as an interim manager?

Van Nistelrooy’s first task as interim manager is a Carabao Cup fixture against Leicester City, who have recently been promoted to the top division.

The match, set for October 31 at 12:30 AM IST, provides an opportunity for United to secure a morale-boosting win and a potential quarter-final berth. Alongside Nistelrooy, the entire backroom staff has also remained in place. Rene Hake, Andreas Georgson, and Jelle ten Rouwelaar will all be part of Nistelrooy’s coaching side.
