Manchester City are deep into hot waters after Premier League's investigation has found them guilty of breaching financial guidelines.

The reigning Premier League champions have been accused of violating several rules and can face certain ramifications as the apex body of the English top-flight resume an independent committee to investigate the matter.

Manchester City's breaches date back to the 2009-10 season, when Roberto Mancini was in charge of them. The Premier League giants are accused of not disclosing accurate remunerations, transfer policies, revenue and operating costs.

What Punishments Man City Could Face?

Manchester City can face a plethora of punishments for their alleged mischief. The Premier League team can face potential punishments according to rule W.51 of the Premier League's handbook.

It includes sanctions from fines to point deductions, and even expulsion from the Premier League, meaning they would go down to the second tier of English football.

And any point deduction can mean City may have consequences on their Premier League titles as well. They have won six Premier League titles since the 2011-12 season and can be stripped of all of them if the panel decide so.

Who will be Champions if Man City are stripped of their Titles?

Manchester City, if barred from their Premier League titles, will face a massive void in their ranks. But it will prove to be an unexpected boon for their city rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool will be awarded 3 titles each if Pep Guardiola's team are stripped of their Premier League titles. Although it looks like an extensive and unlikely process, if City's guilt is proven, this is undoubtedly a sanction they can face in the coming days.

Manchester United (2011-12): Manchester City won this title in dramatic fashion as Sergio Aguero scored a last gasp winner for them. An iconic moment in the Premier League may turn out to be a futile one if their title credentials are snatched away. Manchester United will be awarded as Champions.

Liverpool (2013-14): Liverpool will be crowned Champions. City finished with 86 points while Liverpool finished on 84 points.

Manchester United (2017-18): Manchester United, as the Red Devils finished second, 19 points behind winners Manchester City. City reached 100 Premier League points this season as well, scoring 106 goals in the league campaign.

Liverpool (2018-19): Liverpool. An enthralling season saw Man City win the title by just one point, as they managed 98 points compared to Liverpool's 97.

Manchester United (2020-21): Manchester United finished 2nd yet again in this season, but City had won the league comfortably with a gap of 12 points.

Liverpool (2021-22): Liverpool. Man City again got the better of Liverpool by a solitary point.

If Manchester United and Liverpool are handed over the titles, they both would have 23 and 22 top-flight league titles respectively. The Red Devils currently sit 3rd in the league table this season, while Liverpool are going through a rough patch as they are struggling at the 10th position. Manchester City themselves have been dethroned of their usual top spot this season, as Arsenal occupy the top spot in the Premier League table.
