His football journey took him to Europe at a young age, where he joined the academy of Italian side Atalanta before moving to Lazio. Although first-team opportunities were limited in Rome, Ikonomidis gained valuable experience through loan spells with Salernitana in Italy, AGF Aarhus in Denmark and Western Sydney Wanderers, helping him develop into a well-rounded attacking player.

The Australian winger truly made his mark after returning home. At Perth Glory, he enjoyed the most successful spell of his career, playing a key role in the club's 2018-19 A-League Premiership-winning campaign. For East Bengal, the signing brings experience, creativity and attacking depth. Comfortable on both wings and possessing the ability to create chances as well as score goals, Ikonomidis is expected to play a pivotal role for the Red and Gold Brigade this season.
