Inter Miami may have entered the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with Lionel Messi hogging the spotlight, but in their opening clash against Al Ahly, it was veteran goalkeeper Oscar Ustari who emerged as the unexpected hero.
The 38-year-old produced a masterclass between the posts in the first half, pulling off multiple sensational saves to keep the scoreline goalless.

Ustari's performance included a vital penalty save against Trezeguet in the 42nd minute, along with point-blank stops to deny Emam Ashour earlier in the half. Without his heroics, Inter Miami could easily have gone into the break trailing by two or three goals.
A seasoned campaigner with a career spanning nearly two decades, Ustari first rose to prominence as an 19-year-old. He was the starting goalkeeper for the Argentina U20 side that lifted the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005-a team that also featured a young Lionel Messi. He later went on to win Olympic gold with the Argentina U23 squad at the 2008 Beijing Games.
At the club level, Ustari has seen it all. He played in La Liga with Getafe and Almeria, showcasing his talents in one of Europe's top leagues. His European journey also included a stint with Sunderland in the English Premier League. He didn't live up to his full potential but he remained highly regarded for his shot-stopping ability and composure under pressure.
Ustari also made two appearances for the Argentina senior national team, further underlining the respect he commands in his homeland. Domestically, he represented Argentine giants Boca Juniors, where he enjoyed a notable spell, and later had a successful stint in Mexico with Liga MX side Pachuca, winning plaudits for his consistency and leadership.
Now with Inter Miami, Ustari brings a wealth of experience and calmness at the back. His incredible performance against Al Ahly is just the latest reminder of the quality that has defined his long and storied career.
